About VCU Medical Center West Hospital – Richmond

Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Psychiatry has an addiction program for adults and children. They treat alcoholism and drug abuse while tackling any underlying mental health conditions. That way, you’ll have a lesser chance of relapsing. Let’s take a closer look at what the department has to offer.

There’s an inpatient center for adults. They’ll assign a case management team made up of counselors, social workers, nurses, and other specialists. In addition to traditional therapy, they’re trained to use electroconvulsive therapy and transcranial magnetic stimulation to help you respond to treatment. There’s a special track for seniors.

If you’re looking for outpatient care, they can also provide you with counseling in group and individual settings. Many of the counselors in the outpatient programs are seniors and graduate students finishing their residencies and starting their practices. They’re trained in the latest approaches and work with mentors to address your conditions.

Programs are also available for kids. They look at mental health issues that young people face, including sources of anxiety, depression, and trauma. Approaches can include family and group therapy, recreation and exercise, and peer support groups. There’s a specific track for LGBTQ+ youths.
