About Way Back Inn – Maywood
The Way Back Inn is an extended residential care home in Maywood, Illinois, for up to 23 individuals who identify as adult males and are experiencing addiction, co-occurring mental health issues and gambling disorders. You’ll find them near the Des Plaines River and across the road from an outdoor swimming pool. The average treatment length is 90 days, though I like the fact that you may stay on for up to a year if needed.
You’ll become part of a recovery community that shares home-cooked family style meals and gets together for group therapy. While staying in the house, you’ll be in a safe environment to work on your recovery. To do this, you’ll meet with a counselor for individual therapy sessions. You’ll also have sessions with the other men in the house. They host 12 Step meetings and other group sessions that create a supportive environment.
One aspect of their treatment that I appreciate is their focus on building productive life habits. Addiction often takes away useful daily structure. Here you’ll have chores, daily community meetings and group therapy. Some group sessions will lay the foundations for reconciliation with family members and loved ones. You’ll work on rebuilding your physical health and strength. Living together allows you to connect socially and develop friendships.
Once you’ve completed your treatment program, you may be ready to reintegrate back into your home and community. If you need a little more time in a slightly less structured but still supportive environment, you can step down to one of their independent living homes. There, you’ll have continued access to peer support as you learn to live and thrive in your own home and your new sober lifestyle.
