Located in Chicago, Illinois, the Westcare Crossroads Adult Transition Center is one of five of WestCare programs throughout the state. The Illinois program began operating in 2010 and absorbed the Crossroads Adult Transitional Center that opened in 1983. When you’re first admitted, you’ll undergo a series of comprehensive assessments. These results help develop a customized treatment program to provide you with the skills, education, and resources needed to successfully transition into the community. The academic offerings include helping you get your GED or applying and enrolling in higher educational programs off-site. Their vocational resources include off-site training in the culinary arts and business maintenance to help you to achieve gainful employment.
Volunteer services are available on-site, including literacy services to help you learn to read or become a better reader and religious services to meet your spiritual needs. You also have access to mental health and substance abuse treatment, anger management, and family support services. The employment retention training, job readiness skills and life skills help prepare you to live independently.
The facility utilizes community style living units which help support peer interactions and develop a support network. Additionally, you have access to case management services to connect you with community resources as you transition from the center to independent living.
Cognitive therapies help address your thinking patterns and reduce poor decision-making. They are committed to fostering positive change and encourage you to utilize the services available in your community. They are a nonprofit organization administered under the Illinois Department of Corrections.
