WestCare – GulfCoast Davis Bradley CIC is one of many WestCare locations across the Midwest and West Coast. This center is located in St. Petersburg, Florida, often called the “Sunshine City.” They offer men’s and women’s residential services to individuals who are court ordered for substance use disorder treatment. You can be referred by the court or any legal system and must have a serious substance abuse problem or a co-occurring mental health condition.
They use a modified therapeutic community model that occurs in two phases. During the first phase of your treatment, you receive intensive treatment followed by vocational and employment skills development alongside life skills training to help you transition into the community. The men’s and women’s program provides comprehensive and innovative services in treatment programs that can last from eight to 18 months. The initial goal is stabilization while you’re learning the basic functions of the therapeutic community philosophy. They also strongly emphasize teaching decision making, pre-vocational and/or educational instruction, and developing a relapse prevention plan that includes recognition of the need for aftercare treatment. Next, you’re required to secure and maintain full-time employment during the day while participating in treatment groups and activities either before or after work.
They also offer medication assisted treatment (MAT) using FDA approved prescription drugs to reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings during ongoing treatment. This also helps reduce the risk of relapse.
St. Petersburg offers a beautiful area as you are going through your recovery journey. The city is home to world class attractions like the Salvador Dali Museum and Tropicana Field where the Tampa Bay Rays play. The area is a mix of natural beauty and cultural richness that can be conducive to developing healthy sober hobbies and interests.
