About WestCare Sheridan Correctional Center – Sheridan
The Westcare Sheridan Correctional Center is located in Sheridan, Illinois. WestCare is a well known network of addiction treatment centers in the Midwest but there are locations you don’t see driving down the road every day. At this location, you’ll find their Therapeutic Community program.
Sheridan Correctional Center is a medium security prison for adult men. There are several programs within the prison to help inmates construct a better life for themselves after their sentences end and the WestCare Therapeutic Community is one of them.
This unique program is a drug and alcohol addiction program that provides long term therapy during men’s prison sentences. Depending on your needs, the program can last anywhere from nine months to 36 months. Your care team will assess your needs to determine your length of stay.
During that time you’ll have an ongoing therapy schedule to help you uncover the root causes of your addiction and heal or manage them through techniques like cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing. They’ll teach you skills and thought patterns that will help you overcome your addiction and set you up for a life outside of substance use and crime.
Depending on your circumstances there are specialized classes within the program too. There are aggression management classes for young men and fatherhood classes along with a family reunification program. There’s recreational therapy too to help you find joy and healing in healthier alternatives to drinking and drugs. This program can serve up to 1250 participants at a time within this prison’s population of up to 2000 inmates.
