About Wilson and Young Medal of Honor VA Clinic – Odessa
The Veterans Administration (VA) has clinics throughout the United States including the Odessa VA clinic in Odessa, Texas. It’s also called the Wilson and Young Medal of Honor VA Clinic. This is an outpatient clinic that offers primary care services. They also have specialty services such as mental health and substance use disorder treatment. The clinic is for active military, Veterans, and their families and accepts military insurance.
The clinic is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. They are closed on weekends. The VA offers evidence based treatments for both substance use and mental health disorders.
You’ll participate in several types of therapy while in treatment. One of the therapies is contingency management (CM). In CM therapy, you’ll be given incentives for making progress in your recovery. For instance, if you remain abstinent (as verified by a urine drug screen), you’ll receive an incentive. As you move through the program, the incentives increase along with consistent and improved performance of your recovery behavior.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is another evidence based therapy you’ll use in this program. CBT helps you change from negative to more positive thought patterns. CBT helps many people control the urge to use drugs or drink. You’ll learn better problem-solving skills for dealing with your substance use as well as make progress toward achieving your goals. Motivational interviewing (MI) and motivational enhancement therapy (MET) are two other types of therapy you may use.
There are also medications available for managing substance use and co-occurring disorders. They offer medication assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid, alcohol, and tobacco use disorders. Some of the options available for opioid use disorder include Suboxone, methadone and injectable, extended-release naltrexone.
