About Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution – Torrington
Prison doesn’t have to be a hopeless place. For people with drug or alcohol addiction it can actually be the place where they get treatment they need to get their life back. At least that can be the case at Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution in Torrington, Wyoming.
WMCI is a men’s prison for men who aren’t sentenced to death. But beyond being a place to do time, it actually has a robust treatment program for addiction.
There are two levels of treatment for inmates here based on their addiction and their needs. There’s a traditional outpatient program and an intensive outpatient program. The difference is that the intensive program has more individual sessions each month and more group therapy each week.
The bulk of this program is group therapy. You’ll attend groups for six to nine hours every week depending on your program. These groups will help you work through your addiction and also learn skills for staying sober. It’s mostly a cognitive focus. Your program could last anywhere from six months to a year depending on your progress.
You might not have a choice about whether you’re at WMCI, but you could have a choice about how you use your time. This treatment program could set you up for a healthier and better life after you’re released.
