About YSS – Youth Shelter Services – Boone

Youth & Shelter Services (YSS) in Boone, Iowa provides various services for youth. They provide afterschool and summer programs, substance use counseling, pregnancy and parenting education and supportive housing for youth experiencing homelessness.

The licensed YSS counselors work with people of all ages to provide support for mental health, substance use, family conflict and psychiatric medication management. Counselors are trained to use a wide variety of therapeutic specialties including play therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy and more. They may refer clients to other community services such as drug rehab programs.

Substance use counselors are specially trained to help individuals who are struggling with substance use disorder. They provide evaluations, individual and group therapy and OWI evaluations.

YSS also provides substance use prevention services. They educate and empower youth to live substance-free lives, avoid teen pregnancy and prevent suicide.

They also coordinate with your family doctor and other members of your health team. Iowa residents can choose in-person or virtual appointments depending on their preference.
