About Burien Lakeside Milam Recovery Center – Burien
Located in Seattle, Washington, Burien Lakeside Milam Recovery Center was a residential inpatient facility that provided addiction treatment for adolescents. Now closed, the center was just 20 minutes away from Downtown Seattle. Clients at this center would receive an assessment to determine if the inpatient program was appropriate for their needs. If an individual needed medical detoxification, they could be treated at the Kirkland Facility before proceeding with residential treatment.
Burien Lakeside Milam Recovery Center understood that peers often influence adolescent clients to use substances. The facility believed that an important part of treatment was exposing a client to a peer group that believed in a better way of thinking and acting. They designed the milieu at the adolescent unit to promote better living and influence patients in the facility to choose to do the same.
The facility recognized that similar to adults, adolescents could be less self disciplined as a result of their addiction. That’s why they created a structured routine to help their clients return to a more disciplined and substance free lifestyle. The schedule would include group counseling, education, recreation and exposure to 12 Step programs.
While clients were receiving their treatment, tutoring provided by a local school district was available to continue the client’s involvement with school work. The tutor would also help make the client’s transition back into their grade level as smooth as possible.
