About Casa Aztlan – Belmont
Casa Aztlan is a men’s residential recovery home in Belmont, California, located halfway between San Francisco and San Jose in San Mateo County. This is a nonmedical treatment facility run by the Latino Commission. They are certified by the Department of HealthCare Services (DHCS) and operate under the Substance Use Disorder Compliance Division Licensing and Certification Board. This means their services are provided with regulation and oversight. They accept Medicare and Medicaid as well as self payment and financial aid options. Operating under the principles of Love, Hope, Faith, and Acceptance, they strive to create a culture of nonjudgemental tolerance and respect.
Admission begins with an assessment, after which a caretaker will be assigned to guide you step by step through their highly structured treatment process. For the first 30 days you will have no outside contact, focusing instead on your recovery. Individual counseling is provided during this time. They seek to provide a nurturing approach with an emphasis on education through cognitive behavioral therapy.
Phase two concentrates on working as one. This is characterized by group counseling and an examination of feelings and addictive behaviors through written and oral projects.
Phase three is the transition section of the recovery model, with preparation for reintegration into the community. They offer vocational assistance and resources as well as criminal justice representation. This is also the time for developing strategies for maintaining sobriety and reconnecting with family.
Treatment finishes with a graduation ceremony. Clients can then join the aftercare outpatient program or transfer into transitional housing.
They believe that success in recovery can only come about with community support and cultural understanding. Dignity and second chances are the embodiment of their mission, with 90% of their staff having been through the process themselves.
