About Clinicare – Aurora Plains Academy – Plankinton
Clinicare Aurora Plains Academy is located in Plankinton, South Dakota. It was founded in 2007 and they treat youths with behavioral and mental health problems as well as those battling addiction. They also help with academic, peer and family issues and people with cognitive delays and some who have sexual abuse or sex offender issues.
They look to restore and empower youths and their families to facilitate a change for the better by following their core value system of integrity, compassion, responsibility and respect. They provide trauma informed, therapeutic care, and education and they understand each youth has individual needs and needs a unique treatment plan to heal and recover.
They believe recreational activities are a great way to help your mental and physical well being, particularly activities done outdoors. They have two gyms and 82 acres of outdoor space for you to participate in several activities during your stay at this residential treatment center.
They have an intensive residential treatment center and program called Polaris at the academy which helps 10 to 18 year olds. It’s licensed by the State of South Dakota Department of Social Services and accredited by the Council of Accreditation.
Here they focus on behavioral functioning, emotional and psychological issues and social development. They also help youths with boundary issues, life skills, trauma and risk therapy, occupational therapy and educational or vocational support. Most patients here stay for eight to 18 months.
You might work with psychotherapy sessions, group or family therapy, and receive psychopharmacological services. They also provide treatment planning and case management and with transitioning and aftercare.
They have an onsite school with teachers certified by the South Dakota Department of Education. Students are placed in classes due to their specific needs and classrooms can have 6-12 students in each. Every student takes an education placement test when they arrive at the treatment center.
What I really like about this treatment center is that they provide a place for students to study and continue their education while healing from mental health and or addiction problems.
