About Community Counseling – Strive Program – Huron
Community Counseling’s Strive Program was also known as the Comprehensive Assistance with Recovery and Empowerment (CARE) program. The program was designed as a service for people who met the serious mental illness criteria. It was fluid, meaning people could enter and exit the program as needed. The program included care for people with co occurring mental health and addiction diagnoses.
Clients were evaluated on their ability to navigate the process of recovery effectively using addiction and recovery principles, resources, and coping mechanisms. Graduating from the program required that you understand the factors affecting addiction, have knowledge of recovery resources, and had the ability to openly talk about recovery.
You were allowed to stay in the program for an extended period of time to allow you to begin the process of treatment. You received a core clinical assessment on admission so they could determine how to best meet your goals. The services recognized that you have unique strengths and challenges so they designed the program to encourage you to build more than abstinence from substances. They also addressed your physical, emotional, and intellectual skills. They used therapeutic treatment that was designed to help you develop personal, social, and emotional growth skills.
Care for co occurring disorders used evidence based practices such as dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), developmental psychology, and person-centered therapy. Other treatment approaches may have also been included to ensure that the approach best fit your needs to help you achieve your recovery goals. The multidisciplinary team included case managers and a clinical director as well as mental health professionals who were available to provide care daily and handle unforeseen emergencies.
