About Downtown Women’s Center Haven House – Amarillo
Downtown Women’s Center (DWC) is a nonprofit organization in Amarillo, Texas, that relies on charity and fundraising to help them provide care to women who face addiction and homelessness. Their rehabilitation and housing program comprises two stages through which they give their residents safe and healthy environments in which they can recover and then learn to thrive.
Haven House in central Amarillo is the entry point for women who don’t have children. Here, DWC provides their residents with shelter as well as treatment for alcohol and drug addictions.
Women typically spend seven to nine months in this leg of the program. In this phase, residents must complete a structured addiction treatment program with DWC’s partner, Cenikor, as well as attend regular Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous meetings. They also get individual therapy to help guide them through the recovery process and are encouraged to seek part time employment while at the residence.
If you’ve engaged well with the program at Haven House, DWC has two more residential programs where you can receive extended assistance and treatment. Because their services are offered to people who are often from low income backgrounds, they incorporate lessons on budgeting, skills development, and even daycare (for women with children) into their programs.
