About Georgia Regional Hospital – Savannah

The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) operates the Georgia Regional Hospital located at 1915 Eisenhower Drive in Savannah, Georgia.

The hospital provides treatment for clients with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorder (SUD). The hospital has five units: Adult Mental Health Care, Recovery Care, and three Forensic Services units. The Forensic Services units are secure and clients are there on referral from the corrections and criminal justice systems.
Some SUD services are also offered at enrolled provider sites affiliated with DBHDD. The facility accepts private health insurance, Medicare, and federal military insurance.

Some historians say Savannah was so charming that General Sherman spared it from burning on his famous march to the sea. Savannah is charming, full of natural and man made beauty. The hospital is only eight miles from the famed River Street with its restaurants and pedestrian promenade.

If you need mental health or addiction care, the hospital offers detoxification and SUD treatment. Additionally, they treat adults with co occurring mental health illnesses. They also treat children with serious emotional disturbances.

The hospital accepts clients using medication assisted treatment (MAT) for alcohol that was prescribed elsewhere, and they’ll also prescribe and administer MAT. The detox services include medications to ease withdrawal symptoms.

It’s nice to see that DBHDD contracts with Caring Works, Inc. to provide intensive residential SUD treatment services for the hard of hearing and deaf. The treating staff are fluent in American Sign Language (ASL).

Both the regular and deaf SUD treatment programs include trauma related counseling and other evidence based treatment modalities. Motivational interviewing, anger management, and SUD counseling are some of the treatment approaches.

All treatment at the hospital focuses on the best approach to enable clients to return to the community, including treatment for clients whose length of stay is determined by the courts.
