About Hands Across Long Island – Central Islip
Hands Across Long Island is a private rehab based in Central Islip, New York. The organization provides peer-delivered support and advocacy for individuals having trauma, mental health concerns, alcohol and drug addiction among other life-changing situations. They operate in Long Island and the NYC metro area to create a community which empowers people to find their way through healing, learning and growing.
They give supported housing services together with a peer-run recovery center, employment support, homeless outreach and community bridging. One thing I really appreciate about them is that they are still the only recipient run behavioral health agency in this region. They operate under the auspices of the state network responsible for setting best practices on impactful peer services that save Medicaid dollars.
They are run by peers meaning that most of their staff and board of directors have been at one point or another involved in the mental health systems, substance abuse treatment programs, social welfare initiatives as well as those dealing with the justice system either as offenders or victims. Their CORE services further enable people to achieve goals and utilize resources in communities more effectively. Participants meet staff wherever they want, whether it is at home or even any other public place like library or coffee shop close to them.
Participants are encouraged to acquire skills as well as self confidence that would make them active members in their communities resulting in independence values.
CORE may be available to eligible enrollees who are 21 years and older, residents of New York, and are on Medicaid and Health and Recovery Plans, as well as certain people on HIV-Special Needs and Medicaid Advantage Plus Plans.
