About Harris County Community Supervision & Corrections Department – Houston
The Harris County Community Supervision and Corrections Department is based in Houston, Texas. The department’s goal is to help people on community supervision to avoid future crime and to establish lawful and stable lives. They do this with a wide range of programs and strategies, but treating substance abuse is one of their largest focus areas.
This county department has several different treatment programs for residential recovery depending on what you need. For example there are separate programs for men and women and there are different treatment tracks based on addiction severity and other factors. All these programs are for people 17 or older.
Along with their main residential treatment programs, they have a dual diagnosis program for people who need significant psychiatric care alongside their addiction treatment. I found it especially interesting that they have a special program for women who’re pregnant or are parenting a baby.
While residential treatment is a big part of this department’s work, they also have other services for offenders who have substance use disorders. There’s a drug court for people with drug and alcohol addiction to give you access to treatment instead of traditional criminal sentencing if you commit a drug or alcohol related crime. They also have a DWI court and a mental health court as well as specialty courts for veterans.
Along with these courts, the department offers outpatient addiction treatment for offenders on community supervision. This can give you the therapy and support you need as you start to rebuild a sober and stable life in recovery.
I’m impressed by this department and the programs they offer. This looks to be a way for people to get what they genuinely need to prevent future crimes and it’s a great way to build stronger and healthier communities.
