About Institute for Community Living – Highland Park Center – Cypress Hills

The Institute for Community Living in Brooklyn, New York, (known as ICL) doesn’t just provide substance abuse and mental health recovery services for adolescents and adults. They also have support services for those with developmental disabilities. Therapy services for children and families who are struggling with mental health or behavioral issues are available at the Atlantic Avenue location along with mental health and addiction treatment services for adults and youth.

Treatment at this Highland Park facility includes mental health clinics for children, youth and their families. Emotional, mental health and behavioral health issues can be addressed through professional evaluations, assessments and therapy care plans. Medication management, counseling, group or family therapy and case management are all a part of treatment and are delivered on an outpatient basis.

The Personal Rehabilitation and Recovery (PROS) program offers life skills, resources, and treatment options to individuals who are struggling with activities of daily living due to mental health, addiction, or the physical health complications that are associated with substance abuse and unmanaged mental illness. Clients have support to set life goals in areas such as employment, education, housing or relationships. They are then given the resources, help, and guidance to be able to reach those goals and live a happier and healthier life.

Treatment is offered in a holistic and comprehensive way with initial evaluations and assessments allowing each client to have personalized care and action plans while in treatment. Medication and case management help individuals receive the best care and treatment options for their personal situation. This may include workshops and treatment sessions that focus on emotional and physical health, wellness and nutrition, life skills and healing from trauma, employment and education and activities of daily living.

They also have mobile mental health, ACT and crisis management teams that work in the community to help support those in need. Residential and intensive treatment programs are available at other locations of ICL and referrals can be made through this site.

ICL accepts most major insurance including State and Federal Medicaid and Medicare. It is important to check with your personal health insurance provider to verify what coverage you have and whether there will be any out of pocket expenses for associated costs of treatment.

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
