About John J. Pershing VAMC – Cape Girardeau CBOC – Cape Girardeau
The John J. Pershing VAMC – Cape Girardeau CBOC in Cape Girardeau, Missouri has mental health and substance use treatment services. US military veterans and their family members can avail themselves of intensive outpatient and standard outpatient substance use services by going there. These services are part of the general hospital, so you and your family don’t have to go somewhere else unless you’re referred to a higher level of care. The intake staff will tell you which level of care is best suited to your needs.
For the intensive outpatient program, you would be looking at about three days a week of treatment while you continue to live at home. Treatment has you participating in groups where you will learn about addiction and how to prevent relapse. Counselors ground their interventions in treatment models that are known to work such as cognitive behavioral therapy. People with jobs can often continue working while enrolled in intensive outpatient treatment.
You may be able to step down or start directly in the standard outpatient program. This level is appropriate for people who are stable in their recovery. You can expect to meet with an individual therapist monthly, but that frequency can be adjusted to meet your needs. If it’s appropriate, you would also meet with a psychiatric provider to oversee your medication treatment.
Veterans with VA Health and their covered family members receive treatment free of charge when they go to a VA medical center. If you have other insurance in addition to VA health, they must bill the other insurance first by law.
