About New House III – Santa Barbara
Located in the beautiful, waterfront town of Santa Barbara, California, New House III is a recovery support home for men, allowing them to live in a safe, comfortable environment while they work on their sobriety.
Teamwork is the central theme at this facility, and everyone who works there believes that recovery is a real, achievable goal. This is because everyone on the staff is a client himself. They’re all working together to eliminate distractions, learn as much as possible, and build one another up as they work toward this common aim. They share household duties, eat together, and engage in recreational activities.
While the facility doesn’t offer on site treatment options, a local 12 step recovery group meets there regularly. Clients must attend these meetings and secure a 12 step sponsor. In addition, they are encouraged to leave the facility to attend other kinds of outpatient services, such as addiction counseling, as needed. As soon as they’re physically and mentally capable, they also seek employment outside the facility to earn money, build their self-esteem, and develop responsible habits.
Clients can stay at the facility as long as they need to. Most spend between six and 12 months there before reintegrating into their homes and workplaces. Once they’ve been in the program for at least six months, clients can also move into the nearby Grad House. This is a similar residence that offers a higher level of independence and autonomy.
Reviews of this facility are glowing, with many clients crediting it for saving their lives and families. They mention the sense of brotherhood that permeates the building, and how the program helped them make friends for life. They acknowledge that the residence is very structured, but note that this is exactly what they needed as they took the first steps toward recovery.
