About NorthWest Initiative – CHOICES – Lansing
Known as the birthplace of the Oldsmobile, Lansing, Michigan is home to NorthWest Initiative – CHOICES. This non-profit organization provides various outpatient and community based programs for voluntary or court-ordered adults. You’ll benefit from customized support to successfully reintegrate into life after incarceration.
This day reporting program provides outpatient care for people in the criminal justice system who are battling addiction and mental health disorders. You can access tailored assistance with your recovery goals at the forefront. Along with cognitive behavioral therapy and 12 step programs, you can receive multiple services to get your life back on track.
What stands out most to me is their employment and education services. They understand that transitioning to daily life after incarceration and addiction can come with many hurdles. You can receive assistance with GED prep, resume building, college applications and finding a job. I think this is great because you can become self-sufficient and prepare yourself for success in recovery.
Another great feature that caught my eye was their women’s support group. This group meets biweekly, offering targeted approaches to help women develop healthy coping techniques. You’ll benefit from an encouraging, non-judgemental space to share your story. Additionally, you can build a solid sober network while connecting and learning from women on similar paths.
Lastly, I think it’s nice that they help you secure basic needs. They help you obtain personal documents, like your social security card, driver’s license, birth certificate and more. You’ll also benefit from clothing vouchers and help with applying for health insurance and food assistance. They strive to help you enhance all essential life aspects so you have a good shot at remaining in recovery and preventing recidivism.
