About Odyssey House George Rosenfeld Center for Recovery – New York
The George Rosenfeld Center for Recovery (GRCR) is an Odyssey House facility located on Wards Island in New York City, New York. The complex is situated inside a 480-acre park with easy access to East Harlem, Astoria, Queens, and the South Bronx. It’s an intergenerational center that treats substance use and mental health disorders in older adults (55 and up) and women. The facility has 231 beds.
The center works with private and public insurance carriers. They’re in network with many of the major companies. They’re also in network with New York State Medicaid and many managed care programs. If you don’t have insurance, the staff will work with you to get coverage. If you’re a self-pay client, they’ll adjust the fees based on your income.
At the GRCR, If you’re a mom with children, you can keep your kids with you. You’ll learn parenting skills while you work on your substance use and mental health disorders. There’s a licensed daycare onsite, and an Early Head Start preschool program. You can keep your kids on track while you’re dealing with your own challenges.
While you’re in the program, you’ll work on your individual treatment plan which includes a range of treatment services. These include medication assisted treatment, if appropriate. You’ll also participate in group therapy, individual counseling, and peer supported recovery. They also provide employment assistance and job training. There are education services to include test prep for the High School Equivalency test. This is a comprehensive and supportive program for women, including pregnant women and women with children.
The center also treats seniors 55 and older. Many seniors face unique challenges with addiction. Whether you’ve hidden your addiction your whole life or you’ve turned to substances to cope with challenges as you’ve aged, they can help you get your life back on track. You’ll work with other older people through group sessions, therapeutic activities, and seminars.
They offer age appropriate fitness, recreational, and cultural activities. You’ll also participate in evidence based therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and trauma informed therapy. They offer housing support and will help you find transitional or permanent housing if needed.
