About Riviera Recovery – Malibu
Riviera Recovery is a family of luxury sober and independent living communities for men, women, and nonbinary young adults. Their two locations offer a step in between intensive recovery programs and normal life, smoothing the transition and helping you find stability. They’re based in Malibu, California.
Barrington House is their home for male identifying and nonbinary people. McLaughlin House is their home for female identifying and nonbinary people. Both locations are a few miles from the beach and close to shopping centers, parks and restaurants. Their living spaces are luxurious and comfortable, helping you relax as you transition back into everyday life.
During individual therapy sessions, you may engage in cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, contingency management or motivational enhancement therapy. Contingency management is a system where you can earn vouchers or rewards for behaving in ways that benefit your recovery journey. As you put effort into your behavior, you can earn higher levels of independence. Motivational enhancement therapy is similar, but it focuses more on internal motivation. You’ll work with your therapist to challenge any self destructive behaviors and work toward your long term recovery goals.
One thing I like about Riviera Recovery is that they place emphasis on the importance of hobbies and passions. They encourage you to partake in activities that bring you joy, whether it’s gaming, knitting, watching movies or playing sports. They teach you how to dedicate time to these activities so your life feels fulfilling and pleasurable.
