About Ryther Child Center – Outpatient – Seattle

Ryther Child Center – Outpatient provides care for teenagers ages 13 to 18 in Seattle, Washington, home to the iconic Space Needle against a backdrop of forests and coastal waters. Their intensive outpatient programs include treatment of co-occurring disorders to help teenagers overcome mental health and substance use challenges. They work with most of the insurance providers that offer coverage in the local area, including Medicaid. They will help verify your insurance coverage before beginning treatment.

During your admission, you undergo a comprehensive substance use disorder assessment to identify substance abuse or a co-occurring mental health condition. The program includes 10 hours of therapy each week aimed at helping you build skills that address and overcome the challenges you’re facing.

While they accept referrals from the court system or physicians, the program is voluntary and incorporates several evidence-based therapeutic approaches to help you and your family throughout recovery. Your sessions are held three days a week, and the program can vary from eight to 16 weeks depending on your customized plan and your progress.

Every program includes experiential group based activities such as challenge course exercises to help build communication, emotional regulation and resilience skills. Parents are encouraged to be involved in the program. Psychiatric services are also available as needed.

You must remain sober throughout the program and must be able to engage in some physical activities such as walking, running and sitting for up to one and a half hours at a time. The goal of the program is to reduce your mental health and substance use disorder symptoms while building emotional resilience in you and your family that allows you to manage stress and prevent relapse.

The program also focuses on helping you develop a positive sense of self and build a supportive and connected community with peers and family members. They use a trauma centered approach that informs how they communicate with the family and teenagers as well as their colleagues. The team also focuses on culturally responsive approaches that are responsive to your identity.
