Northwell Staten Island University Health on Seguine Ave provides mental health inpatient services for adults with a specialized program for geriatric patients. There are also outpatient and substance abuse programs at their nearby location on Seaview Ave.
The Staten Island University Hospital has a sophisticated and comprehensive psychiatric department that has a professional and certified psychiatric team to help with emotional, mental health, and substance abuse issues in adults over the age of 18. Outpatient services are available for those 16 years and older.
Inpatient services are provided in a state-of-the-art mental health care unit with 35 beds for acute and emergency psychiatric admissions. Social workers, support staff, psychiatric nurses, psychologists, and board-certified psychiatrists along with allied healthcare professionals and an individual’s primary healthcare team, offer a well-rounded care plan to meet the needs of each patient.
Psychoeducation, medication management, group and personal therapy as well as activity and experiential therapy are all a part of treatment. Evaluations and assessments are preformed by psychiatrists so the right care plan is developed to help each individual.
There is a geriatric psychiatric and mental health program to meet the specific needs of older adults who may be experiencing mental health or psychiatric symptoms. Whether they are suffering from depression due to the loss of a loved one or physical health challenges, or have been suffering from a new dementia diagnosis, there are trained professionals who are available to help.
Admissions to the inpatient program for adults or the geriatric program are either scheduled by referral or on an emergency basis after assessment.
