About TASC – Treatment Alternatives for Safe Community – Chicago
With its headquarters in Chicago, Illinois, Treatment Alternatives for Safe Community (TASC) offers case management and advocacy for those with co-occurring mental health and substance use issues in the justice and family service systems. It’s a program designed and licensed by the state of Illinois to provide alternatives to incarceration and to assist with reentry into the community. Accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and a member of the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers (NAATP), TASC is in network with Medicaid and many insurance providers. They also accept self pay.
They strive to prevent unnecessary incarceration by helping people to achieve health and rehabilitation from substance use disorders. They do this by improving wellness and quality of life for a population facing the unique challenges of recovery and previous involvement in the justice system. In an effort to reduce reincarceration, they help clients connect to treatment, housing support and job training through their pre and post release services. They also advocate for safe withdrawal within the jail setting.
Two of their programs are Winners’ Circles and Inner Circles. The first group meets in community locations, while the second meets inside correctional facilities. They provide a safe, nonjudgemental space for participants to come together with their peers. TASC offers training for Winners’ Circle leadership, as well as assistance in establishing meeting locations. Through these groups they seek to foster more positive interactions with families, at work and in the community. Their programs teach people coping skills and help them develop a plan for their individual recovery journeys.
