About Tropical Texas Behavioral Health – Weslaco
Tropical Texas Behavioral Health (TTBH), located in Weslaco, Texas, provides mental health and substance use disorder services for any age group. It offers a wide variety of programs to address the needs of adults, children, youth and families, with a vision of accessibility and compassionate care.
Support is provided through TTBH’s Adult Mental Health services for those struggling with serious mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and depression. These include counseling, medication management, case management and crisis intervention. The organization also provides integrated primary care which integrates physical health services with mental health care using a holistic approach.
The Child and Youth Mental Health program for children ages three to 17 provides case management, family education, crisis resolution and counseling. It also includes telehealth services to increase accessibility and respite services to families as part of individualized treatment plans. This program supports young people by offering resilience training and family support.
The SUD outpatient program meets patients where they are and provides therapy to those struggling with addiction, as needed. Their Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) program integrates FDA-approved medications with counseling and behavioral therapies to provide a comprehensive approach to treating opioid use disorders.
TTBH is one of the the only wellness organizations in Westchester to offer Mental Health First Aid (MHFA). This is an eight-hour public education program that teaches people how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges. This training is a one-of-a-kind resource for the entire community because it builds awareness and focuses on prevention.
TTBH does accept several insurance plans including Medicaid and Medicare. They also provide a sliding fee scale so that all people can afford treatment and no one is refused care due to an inability to pay.
TTBH significantly stands out in its commitment to accessibility with telehealth and telemedicine services. These services are provided during normal operating hours with the same level of care as in-person services to make access significantly easier for those who live in remote areas. Their pharmacy services, aimed at providing medications at the lowest cost, further strengthen their total care model.
