About Volunteers of America Chesapeake and Carolinas – Lanham
Located in Lanham, Maryland, Volunteers of America Chesapeake and Carolinas is a community-focused and faith-based organization. They serve all members of the community from children to seniors. They also have specialized programs for veterans, those who have intellectual and physical disabilities and women.
If you’re struggling with a behavioral health challenge or have a substance use disorder (SUD) then their outpatient program will support you. If you are homeless then you’ll also have access to shelters, emergency housing and transitional housing.
This is a faith-based community organization. As such, teachings of the Christian faith can be woven into your treatment program if you find that it supports your recovery needs. Although there is a Christian mission behind this organization, you will still be supported through evidence-based treatments. They will address your addiction as well as any co-occurring issues that may be present. If you need medication assisted treatment (MAT) then you can also find it here.
I like that there is a real commitment to providing diverse care here. This can be seen through their programs that support individuals with intellectual abilities. You or your loved ones will receive compassionate and individualized care that will help you learn coping techniques and build life skills.
I also appreciate that they have dedicated programs that are aimed at improving families. They have what’s called the Healing Families program. Through this program, you’ll gain parenting skills, participate in addiction education and even get specialized care like grief counseling. Through this, you’ll feel empowered to create stronger relationships with your loved ones which can lead to mental wellness and sobriety.
If you are an adult or adolescent involved in the criminal justice system then you can be referred to the residential treatment program offered through this organization. There are also residential treatment programs that serve recovering mothers and their children as well.
