About Family Life Counseling and Psychiatric Services – Mansfield
Located in Mansfield, Ohio, Family Life Counseling and Psychiatric Services provides mental health and addiction counseling services for adults and youth experiencing mental health and substance use issues. They also offer school based counseling programs to several school districts in the Mansfield area to make it easier for students and families to get help during school hours in a safe and private environment.
In 1999, Dr. Steven Burggraf started Family Life Counseling to meet the need for mental health evaluations and teen mental health treatment in the community. Early on he partnered with Richland County Children Services and Juvenile Court. Today they’ve grown to offer more services including addiction treatment.
Their treatment philosophy focuses on supporting the entire family and not just the individual facing challenges. They use proven programs like Multisystemic Therapy (MST) and Seven Challenges. MST helps teens with serious behavioral issues by working with their families, schools and communities. The Seven Challenges program supports adolescents struggling with substance use.
Family Life is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and certified by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services.
The adolescent outpatient treatment program is called SPARTAN Life. It meets teens where they are and focuses on building self-awareness and setting goals. Success is measured in real-life improvements like staying drug-free, avoiding legal trouble, improving school attendance and strengthening family relationships.
For adults, they use recovery oriented solutions in both their standard and intensive outpatient treatment programs (IOP). They focus on helping clients build addiction awareness and discover what motivates them to pursue sobriety. Clients in outpatient addiction treatment work on building positive relationships and figuring out deeper issues like past trauma, low self esteem and self sabotaging behaviors.
Restorative Practices is a unique part of the adolescent mental health program. It’s an intervention program that helps individuals ages 10 to 21. The focus is on resolving conflicts and repairing harm through victim/offender mediation. Victims share their experiences, ask questions and find closure. Offenders have the opportunity to apologize and explain their actions.
Family Life Counseling and Psychiatric Services seems dedicated to providing meaningful support through personalized, family focused programs.
